Under the direction of the Director of Finance and Administration, the Accounting Technician 3 is responsible for providing general accounting and financial reporting functions for the National Gallery of Jamaica (NGJ) and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintains the Gallery’s accounting/financial records (bank reconciliations, inventory, and ledger balances).
- Authorizes payment vouchers/disbursements and manages the Accounts Department in compliance with Ministry of Finance regulations and the FAA Act.
- Establishes/maintains systems to ensure timely financial obligations (bills, salaries, statutory returns, etc.).
- Verifies the accuracy of the general ledger and reconciles subsidiary books to main accounts.
- Accounts for all funds received (gifts, donations, grants).
- Controls all bank balances and ensures financial records are audit-ready.
- Provides leadership to staff through objective setting, delegation, and communication.
- Prepares/submits financial statements (Gift Shop, Coffee Shop, subventions, grants, and revenue activities).
- Oversees stock availability and manages fundraising funds.
- Prepares the annual budget, updates, and reviews expected outcomes.
- Predicts budget deviations and proposes corrective actions.
Minimum Qualifications/Experience:
- AAT Level 3 or ACCA – CAT Level C/Level 3 or ACCA Level 1; or
- Diploma in Accounting from an accredited university; or
- A.Sc. Degree in Accounting (MIND); or
- Diploma in Government Accounting (MIND) or Government Accounting Levels 1, 2 & 3; or
- BSc Degree in Accounting or Management Studies (Accounting major).
- Three (3) years’ experience.

- May require working long hours on weekends during exhibition setups.
