The incumbent coordinates and supervises the dental auxiliary program, plans oral health education activities, and performs preventative, curative, diagnostic, and rehabilitative dental care for children within the parish or zone.

 

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Medical Officer of Health, the incumbent will be responsible to coordinate and supervise the dental auxiliary programme within the parish or zone. Additionally, the incumbent will be responsible to plan and organize oral health education/promotion activities within a parish or zone and to carry out prescribed preventative, curative. Diagnostic and rehabilitative dental work on children. 

 

The ideal candidate will meet the following educational criteria:

  • BSc. Degree in Nursing (Dentistry) 
  • Certificate in Dental Nursing 
  • Management and Supervisory Training 
  • Minimum six (6) years relevant experience 
  • Enrollment with Jamaica Dental Council 

 

Key responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Supervise the dental auxiliary staff and coordinate the oral health programme within the parish/zone
  • Plan and organize oral health programmes for a parish/zone 
  • Participate in the development of a budget for the oral health programme in the parish
  • Assess and evaluates performance of staff and make recommendations accordingly
  • Communicate with parish administration on matters impacting the delivery of oral health care services in the parish/zone 
  • Collaborate with other health care providers and non-government organizations in oral health promotion 
  • Instructs children and adults in the principle of preventative dentistry and the measures necessary to maintain optimal oral health performs necessary preventative and rehabilitative oral health procedures on children to include: scaling, prophylaxis etc.
