Networking doesn’t have to feel like forced small talk. It’s really just about building real connections—one person at a time. And you don’t have to be outgoing to do it well.
Start small. Join a professional group online, attend a virtual workshop, or introduce yourself in a local WhatsApp career group. Say something simple like, “Hi, I’m exploring careers in finance. Would love to connect and learn more about the industry.”
Use LinkedIn. It’s one of the best tools for professional networking. Keep your profile updated with a clear photo, headline, and short summary. Share posts, comment on others’ work, and message people with questions—not just job requests.
At events, aim for quality, not quantity. Talk to one or two people meaningfully. Ask about their work, challenges, and advice. You’ll be surprised how many are willing to share their journey.
Always follow up. A short message like, “Thanks for the chat, I enjoyed learning about your role at X,” goes a long way.
And remember: You’re not asking for favors. You’re building relationships that help you grow—and maybe help others too. That’s what real networking looks like.
