The Western Regional Health Authority (a Statutory Body under the Ministry of Health & Wellness) is currently seeking to employ a Biomedical Technician for the Westmoreland Public Health Services.

 

JOB PURPOSE

Under the direct supervision of the Biomedical Engineer, the Biomedical Technician is responsible for the support the operational efficiency of the Unit by testing, inspecting, calibrating and repairing of biomedical equipment and systems. The incumbent will also be expected to: 

 

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform scheduled maintenance servicing and repair of biomedical equipment such as dental chairs, suction machines, blood pressure machines, autoclaves and dialysis systems as directed while ensuring safe and effective operating conditions 
  • Install and commission/decommission and assemble biomedical equipment 
  • Test and calibrate components using a variety of manuals, troubleshooting techniques, and code requirements 
  • Diagnose equipment malfunctions with accuracy and precision by testing the functionality of equipment taking into account accuracy, sensitivity, and selectivity measurements 
  • Ensure biomedical equipment and internal circuitry meet standard requirements in conducting installation 
  • Inform biomedical equipment users and the Biomedical Engineer of status updates or maintenance needs identified 
  • Liaise with clinical staff to identify and remedy scheduling problems 
  • Maintain documentation of new equipment, inspection and equipment repair and failures
  • Perform other related duties that may be assigned by the Biomedical Engineer 

 

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing 
  • Good interpersonal and people management skills 
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and customer relations skills 
  • Knowledge of technical aspects of biomedical equipment and its operation, repair and maintenance 
  • Ability to perform preventative maintenance 

 

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering 
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in a similar capacity 
  • Any equivalent combination of qualification and experience
