The BI Analyst collaborates with stakeholders to identify business intelligence needs, designs dashboards and reports, facilitates information gathering, and conducts analyses to support process changes and ISD projects.

 

Job Purpose

Under the direction of the Manager, Data Services, the Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst will be responsible to:

  • Identify business intelligence, reporting, and data analysis needs by working closely with the organisation, stakeholders and the ISD teams to turn data into critical information and knowledge that can be used to make sound business decisions.
  • Work with business and development teams to design and document dashboards, alerts, and reports.
  • Provide leadership and independent initiatives in facilitating information gathering, structured documentation and presentation of findings to all levels of management.
  • Conduct analyses of functional business processes and requirements and develop cases supporting process changes and ISD projects.

 

Key Responsibility Areas

Technical/Professional Responsibilities

  • Design, build, test and maintain data analytics solutions, ensuring they meet business requirements and user needs using tools including Tableau, Power BI, or a similar reporting suite.
  • Develop internal business intelligence reports - including interactive business intelligence reports, strategic management reports and ad hoc reports - on a prioritized basis.
  • Create business intelligence tools or systems, including the design of related databases, spreadsheets, or outputs.
  • Create and maintain technical design documentation to ensure the accurate development of reporting solutions.
  • Carry out data modelling and build scenarios to allow decision support.
  • Support other teams in using their data better by providing advice and support, such as how to structure data and Tableau advice.
  • Develop dashboards supporting strategic support unit activities, such as revenue reporting and risk management.
  • Develop reports for analysis, monitoring and control through a knowledge base designed per the work plan established.
  • Qualify requirements as ad hoc or recurring performance indicators and build solutions accordingly.
  • Collaborate with Executive management to identify opportunities to apply new BI insights to various areas of the organisation.
  • To advise generally on the potential for data use across JCA.
  • Provide regular analysis and interpretation of data and trends to support decision-making by the leadership team, including text, graphics, and other statistical representations.
  • Carry out detailed projects and studies, sometimes in collaboration with external consultants.
  • To work closely with the Manager, Data Services regarding systems to support the work of the Executive Services Division.
  • To work closely with unit managers and their teams to identify performance information that would help them and identify opportunities for using data to manage their operations effectively.
  • To work closely with the communications marketing and the market research teams on the publication of information and market research relevant to the strategic support unit.

Management/Administrative Responsibilities

  • Manage the timely flow of business intelligence information to relevant users within JCA.
  • Provide appropriate professional advice, assistance and liaison to ISU colleagues and clients when necessary.
  • Create and disseminate information regarding tools, reports, or metadata enhancements.
  • Escalates data-related issues or anomalies found to the appropriate levels.
  • Enforces data policies and standards.
  • Document specifications for business intelligence or information technology (IT) reports dashboards, or other outputs.
  • Generate standard or custom reports summarising business, trade, financial, or economic data for review by executives, managers, clients, and other stakeholders.

Human Resources Responsibilities

  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with team members and clients.
  • Works as part of a team to achieve department targets.
  • Works with other units and divisions within the organisation to identify opportunities for process improvements, contributing to efficiency and profitability.
  • Takes responsibility for personal development in line with agreed annual performance objectives.
  • Performs any other related job enrichment duties that may be assigned occasionally.

Technical  

  • Proven experience mining, integrating and extracting insights from large and dispersed Datasets.
  • Ability to perform complex quantitative analysis and translate results into meaningful business insights.
  • Have experience building substantial ETL pipelines and working with APIs and data warehouses.
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Suite.
  • Knowledge of Oracle BI tools
  • Proficiency with data and statistical analysis
  • Strong knowledge of logical and physical data modelling concepts
  • Proper knowledge of business policies and regulations.
  • Understanding budgeting procedures, methods, evaluation criteria and resource planning.
  • Understanding of programming and database design techniques.

 

Minimum Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Computer Science, Information Management or similar ICT analytical or data-driven related disciplines
  • At least five (5) years of experience in the IT Business Intelligence Analyst field.
  • Proficient in business intelligence reporting tools (Power BI, Tableau).
  • Demonstrated ability with ETL tools (Oracle Data Integrator is an asset)
  • Advanced SQL and relational database experience
  • Data warehouse experience
  • Supervisory Management Training and experience
