The incumbent manages the Inpatient department, collaborates with the Chief Pharmacist in developing clinical pharmacy programs, applies evidence-based guidelines, advises on pharmacotherapy, and provides education and guidance to staff and patients.

 

ROLES AND FUNCTIONS OF JOB:

  • Manage the Inpatient department and/or an assigned specialized area(s) in collaboration with the Chief Pharmacist, to ensure that the operations are in keeping with set objectives of the National Health Fund. 
  • To assist the Chief Pharmacist in assuming the responsibility for the continuous development and implementation of a clinical pharmacy programme. 
  • To achieve desired therapeutic goals, by applying evidence-based therapeutic guidelines, evolving sciences, emerging technologies, and relevant legal, ethical, social, cultural, economic and professional principles. 
  • To work independently to evaluate and recommend Pharmacotherapy and Pharmacoeconomics to physicians, pharmacists and members of the patient care team in order to ensure an optimal therapeutic outcome in all clients. 
  • To provide proper guidance to patients on their compliance with medications and adverse drug reactions. 
  • Participate in continuing education and training programmes for Pharmacy Staff, Pharmacy Interns and Health Care Professionals. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Doctorate in Pharmacy Degree. 
  • Post Graduate Training in Clinical Pharmacy. 
  • Registered Pharmacist licensed by the Pharmacy Council of Jamaica. 
  • Registered Preceptor by the Pharmacy Council of Jamaica. 
  • Minimum of three (3) years working experience as a Pharmacist in a hospital pharmacy.
  • Minimum of one year experience in Clinical Pharmacy. 

 

SKILLS AND SPECIALIZED TECHNIQUES:

  • Computer literate with working knowledge of pharmacy software, Microsoft Word and Excel software. 
  • In-depth and current knowledge on drugs, medical procedures and therapies, diagnosis and disease states as well as pharmacokinetics. 
  • Knowledge of norms and standards related to Ministry of Health Drug Policy e.g. VEN List and Dangerous Drugs. 
  • Knowledge of World Health Organization’s good manufacturing practices. 
  • Excellent decision making time management and supervisory skills. 
  • Display good leadership qualities and maintenance of professional standards.
