The Western Regional Health Authority (a Statutory Body under the Ministry of Health and Wellness) is currently seeking to employ Community Health Aides (HSC/HS 4) for the St. James Health Department.

 

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Rendering basic first aid treatment to members of the community and referring persons to appropriate health facilities for treatment 
  • Advising parents and guardians of the importance of having their children completely immunized against infectious diseases and encourage the regular attendance of infants and children to the Child Welfare Clinic 
  • Motivating and referring new clients to Family Planning Clinics, encourage delinquents to attend regularly and stress the importance of using the Family planning method, as advised at the clinic 
  • Assisting the Public health Nurse, District Midwives in identifying all expectant mothers in the area and ensure that they attend clinic to receive adequate pre-natal and post-natal care 
  • Assisting the Public Health Nurse, District Midwife and Staff Nurses at clinic and during mass immunization programmes 
  • Undertakings house to house survey of persons within the defined area to obtain date on health status, as directed and maintains the appropriate records 
  • Informing the community of all the services offered by the Ministry of Health and allied agencies 
  • Identifying signs of environmental risk factors due to mosquito and rodent etc
  • Perform any other duties, as assigned by the Public Health Nurse

  • High level of integrity and confidentiality  
  • Good time management skills  

 

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Two (2) CXC/GCE subjects; English Language (Compulsory) 
  • Successfully completed a minimum of eight (8) weeks training approved by the Ministry of Health & Wellness

OR 

  • HEART TRUST certification in Community Health Aide/ Healthcare Assistant
