The Department Head, Finance ensures quality accounting systems, timely fund receipt, and efficient Finance Department operations with proper fund control and accountability.

 

JOB PURPOSE

Under the supervision of the Director – Finance, Planning and Enterprise Procurement, the Department Head, Finance is responsible for developing and maintaining accounting systems and controls that guarantee the production of high quality accounting information. The Department Head, Finance is also responsible for ensuring that approved funds are received from on a timely basis so that the company remains financially sound; the effective and efficient operations of the Finance Department are in order and there is control and accountability of company funds.

 

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages the overall operations of the Finance Department
  • Develops and implements strategies for efficient and effective management and administration of the department
  • Leads the department strategic planning process to achieve business goals
  • Leads the preparation of annual budget plans for manpower, capital and recurrent expenditure
  • Leads major periodic reviews of policies and standards
  • Develops departmental policies
  • Prepares management & statutory regulatory reports
  • Formulates accounting policies, procedures and internal controls that are properly documented
  • Prepares timely and accurate reports in accordance with required reporting standards
  • Administers proper management of the company’s funds
  • Prepares accurate schedules to facilitate timely completion of annual audit.
  • Provides accurate management accounting information for corporate budget preparation that will assist in the overall strategic and operational planning process.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting; ACCA level II or equivalent from a recognized tertiary institution.
  • 3–5 years experience at a managerial level
  • 5–7 years working in an accounting environment
