The incumbent will oversee hospital equipment maintenance, manage records, advise on replacements, coordinate workshops, liaise with contractors, contribute to disaster management, and assist in budget planning.

 

JOB PURPOSE

The incumbent will: 

  • Exercise responsibility for the maintenance of a well organized, fully documented equipment management programme to ensure smooth operation of the hospitals workshop, through safe and reliable operations of equipment and structure; 
  • Ensure that all maintenance problems are addressed efficiently. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  •  BSc/Diploma from a recognized institution
  •  Training in Supervisory Management/General Management 

PLUS

  • A minimum of three (3) years experience in a similar capacity 

OR 

  • Any other equivalent combination of qualification and experience 

 

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE

  • Comprehensive knowledge of Jamaica's electrical & building codes, manufacturers operations and services manuals, architects blueprints, parts catalogue 
  • Knowledgeable in Ministry of Health Operations/ Maintenance policies and procedures 
  • Computer Literate 

 

KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Good analytical skills and judgment 

 

WORKING CONDITION ASSOCIATED WITH JOB:

  • Required to work beyond normal working hours and at irregular hours, as necessary to meet critical time deadlines. 

 

DUTIES

  • Develop and maintain a preventative maintenance program for all equipment in the hospital, this should include: preventative maintenance procedure for each type of equipment, the methodology as to how preventative maintenance job reports are tabulated and maintained into the equipment management programme 
  • Develop methodology for inventorying and cataloging of all biomedical equipment, devising the relevant documentation to support such a program. Work orders, job reports, equipment data sheets etc 
  • Maintain records of service history for all equipment, supervise the implementation of such a system 
  • Assist the Engineer in the development of specification for all new being purchased that fall under the purview of the hospital maintenance 
  • Ensure that all codes are complied with during all equipment installation and/or construction to building 
  • Recommend to the Operations Manager on the replacement of capital, unsafe or obsolete equipment as justified by service history and current problems 
  • Manage replacement parts for machines/equipment, while ensuring that maintenance costs are kept at a minimum 
  • Develop innovative ideas to keep the cost of hospital maintenance down 
  • Ensure that the hospital Generator is adequately fueled at all times 
  • Respond to emergency call in the silent hours, by dispatching appropriate team to address problems 
  • Monitor the operations of the plumbing, Carpentry, Electrical, A/C and refrigeration workshops 
  • Establish and evaluate the nature of work to be accomplished and submit to workshop supervisor for implementation 
  • Assist in major repair problems when tasks falls beyond the scope of Artisans and Technician 
  • Liaise with contractors on major repairs and oversee new installations of major equipment or construction within the hospital. This will ensure that time lines, high degree of quality and all applicable codes are followed  
  • Undertake minor repair work to the Medical Gases in the event of leakages until the appropriate Technician arrive 
  • Participate in Manpower planning needs for hospital maintenance department . ,
  • Prepares Performance Reviews for personnel under purview and make the appropriate recommendation for promotion or otherwise 
  • Monitor the development of workshop supervisors, Technicians and Artisan by instructing them on proper work methods and recommending technical and/or supervisory training 
  • Determine the need and seek approval for overtime work, verify claims for work carried out, etc 
  • Participates in the Disaster Management Plans for the institution 
  • Participates in Budget planning in forecasting of equipment and maintenance needs 
  • The Chief Maintenance Supervisor must keep abreast with modem Technology by attending the appropriate continuing education workshop/seminar 
  •  Any other related duties as assigned by the Operations Manager
