The incumbent will be responsible to manage activities as it relates to the Institutional Health and Complaints Investigation Programme to ensure that the institutions attain minimum acceptable public health standards.

 

Qualification and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health/Public Health Inspection 
  • Training in the relevant areas of specialty 
  • Supervisory Management Certification 
  • Minimum of six (6) years’ experience or 
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience 

 

Specific Knowledge/Skills Required

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of Public Health 
  • Knowledge of environmental science and preventative medicine 
  • Knowledge of Government’s health policies and programmes particularly in the delivery of primary health care 
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations relating to public health and ability to interpret and apply them to health sanitation 

 

Responsibilities include but not limited:

  • Analyze data pertaining to institutions and prepare reports for submission.
  • Consult with Public Health Specialists and extrapolate information from specialist reports to aid in decision making as it relates to institutions; disseminate information as required across the organization. 
  • Audit reports to ascertain trends and to verify that inspectional guidelines are being followed
  • Manage all legal proceedings pertaining to Institutional Health 
  • Provide updates to Deputy Chief Public Health Inspector and Medical Officer (Health) on matters of significance. 
  • Provide training and orientation for members of staff assigned to the Institutional Health Programme 
  • Identify training needs and recommend officers for training. 
  • Facilitate exposure for paramedical and medical groups regarding institutional health.
  • Facilitate intersectoral collaboration with agencies aligned to the public health department
  • Design intervention strategies in keeping with Ministry of Health policies.
  • Manage a system for the assessment of sanitation standards at private institutions in keeping with public health guidelines. 
  • Identify and assess suitability and recommend purchasing of specialized instruments for the assessment of institutional health.
