To assist in the development and implementation of plans and programmes for improving the health of adolescents in Jamaica and also to cooperate and contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the Ministry of Health and Wellness

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

  • Participates in the development of the annual programme plan and operating  budget for adolescent health
  • Consults with various technical specialists regarding current methodologies for adolescent interventions in order to upgrade adolescent projects and programmes
  • Develops and implements Adolescent Standards and Criteria
  • Defines the services to be provided at adolescent clinics, and monitors their implementation in collaboration with the assigned PO – Quality Assurance, Monitoring & Evaluation
  • Conducts site visits to the regions and parishes to ensure that planned activities and programmes are being effectively coordinated and implemented, and directs the problem-solving process
  • Conducts analysis of adolescent programme data, and recommends and/or implements appropriate interventions as required
  • Provides technical advice and guidance to health personnel in the regions and parishes on the implementation of policies, programmes and services related to adolescent health
  • Provide technical guidance to both public and private sector practitioners on adolescent health programme areas
  • Conducts and organizes in-service training for field staff in the various components of the adolescent health programme 
  • Develops and supports interventions to prevent repeat teen births that offer continued social, health and educational support, in collaboration with the PO – Family Planning
  • Develops and supports the implementation of key strategies, including screening services, for at-risk youth, in collaboration with the Health Promotion and Protection Branch
  • Participates in the development and dissemination of gender-sensitive educational material for adolescents
  • Facilitates the implementation of an integrated Sexual and Reproductive Health Policy as it relates to the adolescent population, in conjunction with the PDO – Adolescent, Men’s and Women’s Health
  • Assists the PDO – Adolescent, Men’s and Women’s Health in the development and implementation of new programmes and initiatives related to adolescent health
  • Designs surveillance and information systems for key programme indicators
  • Liaises with health staff and other stakeholders in the regions and parishes in establishing linkages between primary, secondary and tertiary care services
  • Conducts periodic assessments of the status of adolescent health services, in collaboration with the assigned PO – Quality Assurance, Monitoring & Evaluation, with a view to improving coverage and quality of care

 

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • A Masters Degree in Health/Social Sciences/Public Health
  • Certificate/Diploma/ B.Sc. in Management Studies /Adolescent health 

OR

  • Diploma/Degree in Management/or equivalent qualification
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience
