The role involves coordinating public health and sanitation programs within a health district, managing personnel in specialized areas to ensure effective delivery in compliance with relevant regulations.

 

Job Purpose:

Reporting to the Deputy Chief Public Health Inspector, the incumbent will be responsible for coordinating the public health and sanitation programmes for a health district. He/she will manage the activities of public health personnel engaged in specialized areas of environmental health and sanitation for the effective and efficient delivery of environmental health in accordance with the Public Health Act and other regulations. 

 

Qualification and Experience:

  • Diploma in Public Health Inspection/B.Sc. Environmental Health/Environmental Management
  • Post Graduate training and certificate in Meat & Other Foods Inspection 
  • Registration with the Council for Professions Supplementary to Medicine 
  • Diploma/Certificate in Management/Supervisory Management 
  • Minimum of five (5) years experience (inclusive of training period). 

 

The following qualifications will be a definite asset:

  • Diploma/Certificate in computing or demonstration in the use of computers (MS Word, Power Point & MS Excel) 
  • Training in Project Management 

 

Specific Knowledge/Required Skills

  • Knowledge of the principles and practice of Public Health 
  • Knowledge of Government’s health policies and programmes, particularly, in the delivery of primary health care 
  • Knowledge of new trends and development in Public Health 
  • Knowledge of the Public Health Law and other regulations relating to Public Health and ability to interpret and apply them to health sanitation
  • Ability to supervise and control 
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Participating in planning and organizing programmes for the promotion of environmental health for the parish. 
  • Monitoring the implementation of programmes and evaluating the impact on community health. 
  • Analysing data received from Public Health Inspectors, compiling reports & statistics, and investigating special environmental health problems. 
  • Supervision of Public Health Inspectors Grade 1 and Grade 2 and Public Health Programmes within a Health District
