Specialist Nurse (HPC/RN 2) - Cornwall Regional Hospital

Reporting to the Public Health Nurse and or Nurse Manager, the incumbent will also be expected to:

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist, Plan and administer care to clients employing the nursing process
• Assist in the collection and compilation of statistical data for reports
• Interpret bio-chemical data and acts appropriately through quick strategic decision
• Monitor and interprets data presented by mechanical devices and employing appropriate responsive action
• Follow established guidelines in handling and caring for mechanical devices and instruments
• Ensure currency of registration with professional regulatory body
• Supervise and evaluates Enrolled Assistant Nurses and Attendants
• Establish and maintain interpersonal relationship with the health team and client
• Assist the doctor with procedures such as incision and drainage, pap smears and vaginal swabs.
• Administer oral and injectable medications as ordered by the doctor
• Conduct antenatal, postnatal, family planning, Pap smear and Child Health Clinic and making referrals where necessary
• Ensure proper collection, identification, storage and safe transportation of specimen to the laboratory with appropriate requisition forms

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• BSc. In Nursing from an accredited institution or its equivalent.
• Midwifery Registration with the Nursing Council of Jamaica.
• Three(3) years experience as a Registered Nurse.
