The System Administrator ensures high availability of IT systems, overseeing acquisition, development, operations, and compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

 

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Information Technology Manager, the System Administrator is expected to assist with the management and Information Technology systems to ensure high levels of availability. The Systems Administrator is primarily responsible for areas relating to the acquisition and development of IT Systems and its overall operations. The incumbent is also responsible for maintaining industry best practices, and regulatory requirements that are consistent with Corporation’s goals. 

 

Key Responsibilities Includes

  • Coordinates with network engineering, business application, and database administration functions to implement desktop and server systems that utilize industry best practices to meet corporate objectives; 
  • Assists to manage all operating systems and end-user software;
  • Assists to manage communications and connectivity solutions, including workstation connectivity, local area networks, company Website, intranet, and Internet applications; 
  • Updates and maintains the Corporation’s website and Intranet;
  • Ensures the integrity and security of enterprise data on host computers, multiple databases, and during data transfer in accordance with business needs and industry best practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance; 
  • Assists to maintain backups and perform regular testing in compliance with the backup policy; 
  • Assists maintain disaster recovery protocols; 
  • Anticipates, mitigates, identifies, troubleshoots, and resolves hardware and software problems on servers and workstations; 
  • Practices network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information; 
  • Recommends, schedules, and performs software and hardware improvements, upgrades, patches, reconfigurations, and/or purchases;
  • Conducts research on emerging products, services, protocols, and standards in support of systems software procurement and development efforts;
  • Ensures asset inventory is maintained; 
  • Prepares and submits reports. 

Other 

  • Assists in the preparation of management reports, at the required intervals, on the department’s activities and progress towards objectives; 
  • Performs other related functions assigned from time to time by the Information Technology Manager. 

 

Required Skills/Competencies

  • Sound character, credibility, and integrity 
  • Working technical knowledge of network, PC, and platform operating systems, including Linux and Windows 
  • Strong knowledge of local area network administration, routing, and switching
  • Hands-on software and hardware troubleshooting skill/ experience
  • Ability to conduct research into hardware and software issues and products as required 
  • Familiarity with backup and recovery software and methodologies
  • Working knowledge with firewalls, Internet VPN remote implementation, troubleshooting, and problem resolution. 

 

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in technology and information systems or closely related fields of study plus Two (2) years’ work experience in information technology

OR 

  • Associate degree in technology and information systems or closely related fields of study plus four (4) years’ work experience in information technology
  • MCSA Certification and/or COMPTIA and/or CISCO Certifications its equivalent
  • Experience in project management would be an asset.
