The role involves performing ECG tests, positioning electrodes, ensuring patient comfort, reporting abnormal readings, maintaining records, and supporting healthcare providers in patient care and treatment.
Job Purpose:
Under the supervision of the Nurse in Charge, the incumbent will be responsible for providing support to the general nursing and medical staff and specifically to provide ECG tracing measurements when required by operating the electrocardiogram machine. This provides patients with healthy preventive testing to more complicated cases involving many types of cardiac diseases.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Successful Completion of accredited training in Allied Health Nursing – Level 2 (NCTVET)
- Successful completion of a training in ECG measurement techniques and procedures
- Secondary School Education
Required Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:
- Knowledge and use of aseptic techniques and standard precautions
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to control operations of systems or equipment.
- Excellent customer service skills required with the ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and to ask questions, when necessary
- Ability to generate or adapt technology and equipment to serve patient’s needs.
- Ability to read interpret and present information and ideas.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Performs electrocardiogram tests on patients.
- Positions and applies electrodes as appropriate. Connects leads from the electrocardiograph machine to electrodes on specified body areas.
- Sets up ECG components for accurate readings.
- Monitors the safety and comfort of patients at all times and elevate concerns accordingly.
- Provides patients with information about the ECG procedure and facilitating questions.
- Maintains records for ECG procedures performed
- Responds to emergency calls from doctors or nurses.
- Reports abnormal reading to the Nurse or Doctor on duty, especially if the patient is having a Myocardial Infarction (MI)
- Prints and collates ECG reports for analysis by health care providers.
- Assists with filing and retrieving patient’s health information to include, but not limited to ECG results.
- Provides support to doctors and nurses in the care and treatment of patients
