Reporting to the Director, Nursing Services, the incumbent will be responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating and evaluating of nursing services in a patient care unit within the hospital.

 

The ideal candidate will meet the following educational criteria: 

  • BSc. In General Nursing Plus 
  • Certificate in Midwifery plus 
  • Bachelor or Certificate in Nursing Administration/Health Services Administration or equivalent post registration qualification in Administration/ Management 
  • Minimum of Four (4) years’ work experience 
  • Registration with the Nursing Council of Jamaica 

 

Related Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Behavioural and Medical Sciences 
  • Knowledge of Nutrition, Pharmacology and Therapeutics, 
  • Knowledge of nursing health and related legislations 
  • Ability to make calculated and quick decisions and to remain calm in stressful situations
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with members of the health team as well as patients and relatives 
  • Emotionally and mentally stable 

 

Key responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Supervising the clinical management of patients within the unit 
  • Establishing the patient classification system 
  • Acts promptly and decisively in emergency situations 
  • Conducts quality assurance audit 
  • Gives direct care to seriously ill patients 
  • Lead nursing and medical ward rounds and provide nursing consultation on clinical status of individual patients
