JOB PURPOSE
Under the leadership and direction of the Director, Social Work in Health, the Youth Health Advisor is responsible for the implementation of strategies and programmes anchored in the core principles and values of Social Work to enhance the health outcomes of young individuals, particularly focusing on the social determinants of health that serve to increase their vulnerability. The incumbent develops and monitors the implementation of youth policies and programmes aligned to the Health in All Policy (HiAP) fostering people-centered healthcare service provision and delivery incorporating multisectoral linkages across MOHW, MDAs, RHAs, and other Ministries. The Officer will collaborate with healthcare professionals and develop innovative social protection strategies to empower young people and families, advocate for systemic change, and bridge the gap between healthcare and social services, driving improved health outcomes

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS INCLUDE:
- Manages the implementation of youth health programmes and projects.
- Liaises with healthcare professionals to identify current challenges and trends in youth health.
- Represents the Social Work in Health Unit in youth health-related seminars and conferences.
- Facilitates planning and execution of youth health strategies and activities within the division.
- Reviews and manages budgets allocated for community health initiatives based on programme needs.
- Contributes to the development of Operational / Work Plans for the Social Work in Health Unit
- Contributes to the preparation of budget for the Unit
- Contributes to the preparation of status reports for the Social Work in Health Unit
- Collaborates with internal teams to ensure seamless client service and people centered experience.
- Develops and implements strategic health initiatives focusing on the well-being of youth within the health sector.
- Supports the Director in the design of comprehensive health programmes addressing these issues, incorporating preventive, educational, and support aspects.
- Collaborates with healthcare professionals, educators, and community leaders to ensure programmes are well-rounded and effective.
- Implements initiatives in various settings, such as schools, community centers, and health clinics.
- Develops metrics and indicators in conjunction with Unit Director to measure the success of youth health initiatives.
- Conduct audits to track the progress and compliance of programmes and projects against established guidelines and standards data to make recommendations for improvement
- Maintains collaborative linkages with government bodies, NGOs, and community groups that work with youth.
- Coordinates and facilitates meetings and workshops to discuss potential collaborations and share resources.
- Jointly develops health promotion campaigns and events tailored to the needs of young people.
- Works on securing funding or resources for joint initiatives through proposals and presentations.
- Identifies relevant health awareness dates and local community events.
- Plans and organizes health promotion activities like workshops, seminars, and health fairs, targeting youth audiences.
- Coordinates with healthcare professionals and youth leaders to deliver interactive and informative sessions.
- Utilizes social media and other digital platforms to promote these events and engage with the youth audience.
- Collects and analyses data through surveys, feedback forms, and participation rates to understand the reach and impact of youth programmes.
- Prepares reports summarizing findings and suggesting improvements or new directions.
- Researches and compiles current and relevant health information suited for a young audience.
- Ensures materials are accessible and inclusive, catering to diverse backgrounds and learning needs and distributed through schools, youth centers, online platforms, and during health promotion events.
- Conducts training sessions and workshops.
- Develops guidelines and best practices for healthcare providers to follow in their interactions with youth.
- Advocates for policy changes within healthcare institutions to prioritize client-centered care for youths.
- Updates training programmes and materials based on the latest health research and youth trends.
- Establishes metrics for evaluating the effectiveness of youth health programmes and initiatives.
- Performs all other duties and functions as may be required from time to time.
MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in qualifications. social work, Psychology, Public Health or equivalent
- Training in developing and managing health programmes for youth.
- Working knowledge of Project or Strategic Planning would be an asset
- A minimum of at least three (3) years in a related position or social services or related areas.
