The electronic/refrigeration technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, repairing, and servicing cooling and parlour equipment and facilities, including air conditioning systems and units, milk-cooling systems, and milking equipment.
Support the maintenance programme of the farms machinery/equipment to facilitate maximum productivity, reliability, reduce cost and improve sustainability and best practices.
- Perform inspection, maintenance, repairs, and installation of air conditioning systems, including milk cooling systems, refrigerators, air conditioning units, and similar equipment.
- Coordinate with external HVAC providers to install and maintain of systems.
- Review and prepare equipment list along with technical data, and schedule periodic preventative maintenance for equipment. Prepare maintenance reports and monitor the progress of jobs/projects and provide timely updates on the maintenance management system; to include job status, machine downtime, etc. Maintain accurate and efficient record.
- Run equipment, service, install, repair simple electronic circuits and systems and test farm machinery/equipment to include vacuum systems, pulsetors, pumps, air compressors, boilers, valves, heat exchangers, motors, electrical switchgears, transformers, electrical controllers, lighting systems, cooling equipment, chlorinators, fan motors, capacitors , etc.
- Take away pumps and motors, change bearings and shafts, repacks and perform reinstallations; perform adjustment on expansion valves; change, fix, and re-calibrate humidistat and thermostats, change hinges, gaskets, and hardware such as o-rings, washers, belts, clamps, filters etc.
- Order for replacement of equipment parts as required, perform repairs as ordered, and keep record of servicing on equipment.
- Read and interpret engineering, building and other technical diagrams needed in conduct of your job tasks.
- Provide assistance to colleagues in the department to effectively maintain, and repair equipment, buildings, and other company properties.
- Carry out minor plumbing maintenance work, including change or repair of leaks in faucets and drains, trenching and laying of new lines, unclogging of drains, etc.
- Carry out minor masonry, painting, and carpentry work.
- Provide support after work hour if required in situations like emergency, workshop, commission meetings, and other company functions.
- Perform related duties that may be assigned.
Work Environmental
The nature of this work may require work in hazardous environments, exposure to confined spaces, noise, dust, cold and heat.
While performing duties of this job, would occasionally be required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel, talk and hear and use fingers and hands to feel objects, tools or controls.
Requirements
Experience & Qualifications:
- Appropriately recognized training and certification in electrical engineering and HVAC and commercial refrigeration training or equivalent from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of one (1) year practical experience in a similar capacity in an engineering or dairy farming environment
- Pre-employment drug and alcohol screening
Skills:
- Ability to interpret mechanical and machinery diagrams.
- General manual dexterity and mechanical aptitude. Ability to use hand tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, drills etc and hydraulic tools such as presses, sockets etc.
- Ability to read blueprints of electrical circuit diagrams. Familiarity with electrical systems, tools, equipment, codes and safety procedures
