Title: Accounts Manager/ Fin Manager, Accounting

Reports to the Financial Controller

Supervises:

  • Accounts Payables Supervisor, Cost Accountant, Accounting officer, and Payroll Officer.
  • Liaise internally with Department/Store Managers and Supervisors, other members of staff.
  • Liaise externally with Divisional and Corporate Support Staff
  • Liaise with external auditors, vendors, and government agencies.

Performance Criteria

This job is satisfactorily performed when:

  1. All supporting statements, reports, journals, schedules, and reconciliation are prepared and submitted within the stipulated deadlines.
  2. The Financial Statement is submitted within three working days after the month end and is true and fair.
  3. All statutory returns are accurately prepared and submitted within the stipulated time.
  4. The accounts in your area of responsibility are ready and available to facilitate a timely and efficient annual audit.
  5. There is adherence to all the policies and procedures of the Company and the department.

 

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Overall responsibility of the day-to-day accounting functions, hence you are required to supervise sub-ordinates and ensure that they perform their roles in accordance with company policy and generally acceptable practices. 

  • Constant review of our accounting practices and procedures to ensure that sound internal controls are in place.

  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and monthly forecasts.

  • Ensure that monthly schedules and reconciliations are prepared for all general ledger accounts that are assigned to you, your sub-ordinates, and their direct reports. These must be accurate and submitted in Assurenet (balance sheet accounts) and or manually on a timely basis.

  • Monitor the general ledger and take the necessary actions to correct any obvious errors, omission, and or misstatement.

  • Coordinate activities to facilitate timely month–end close and that the financial reports reflect a true and fair view. 

  • Review payment requests for accuracy before submission to Corporate AP

  • Coordinated and participate in stocktaking exercise when required.

  • Ensure that the payrolls and statutory returns are accurate and completed in a timely manner.

  • Manage the annual audit of the financial statement by ensuring that all schedules, reconciliations, and documents are ready and available for the annual audit.

  • Preparation of financial statements and reports on request.

  • Any other relevant and related duties that may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications:

Education

  • BSC Degree in Accounting or Management Studies

  • Completion of ACCA level 11

  • A minimum of five (5) years’ work experience in accounting at a senior level.

Required Skills

  • Analytical, research and time management.

  • Ability to communicate effective both orally and in written form.

  • Ability to organize, coordinate and prioritize. 

  • Supervisory and management

Specialized Techniques / Knowledge

  • Sound knowledge in preparing and analyzing financial statements.

  • Excellent knowledge and application of Microsoft Excel 

  • Proficient in using Microsoft Word and Other Microsoft Tools

  • Sound knowledge of IFRS and IAS

  • Comprehensive knowledge of accounts payables, payroll, accounts receivables, fixed assets, costing and inventory accounting and control. Reporting Relationship
