POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for the maintenance, adjustment, installation and repair of machinery/equipment and plumbing systems in the Plant and its environs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Troubleshoot and diagnose problems and effect necessary repairs.
• Complete B-Mill bearing temperature checks
• Execute condition based monitoring of all mechanical equipment.
• Complete check sheets as assigned.
• Lubricate mechanical equipment as required by preventative maintenance program.
• Work with multi-craft teams to execute project initiatives.
• Develop and re-evaluate Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) for varied maintenance operations.
• Adjust equipment or system performance as required to meet production needs (i.e increase/ decrease; speeds, flow rates, overall throughput)
• Align and set tolerances to equipment and machines using appropriate tools and devices.
• Adjust tension to drive belts and torque requirements to nuts and bolts as required by equipment OEM.
• Execute hoisting and lifting of equipment and sub-assemblies using hoist, cranes as required for installations or removal .
• Respond to emergency repairs when needed.
• Work closely with other Maintenance personnel and production teams so as to minimize downtime.
• Responsible for the service, maintenance and installation of all plumbing systems.
• Work closely with fabricating all welding personnel in pipe fitting or equipment placement exercises.
• Identify parts, materials and tools needed to complete tasks.
• Interpret mechanical engineering drawings and mechanical specifications.
• Does general housekeeping on the job.
• Maintain workshop areas, ensuring area is organized.
• Develops specifications from general descriptions.
• Examines machinery to detect imperfections and propose/ implement a possible solution.
• Disassemble equipment and subassemblies to gain access to defective parts, correct faults and reassemble parts.
• Repairs and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment in accordance with diagrams and operation manuals.
• Analyses cause of damage to equipment to detect any form of abuse.
• Responsible for keeping work area safe at all times.
• Performs any other work related task which may be necessary from time to time.
2. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
• Mechanical Engineering Diploma or equivalent
• Intermediate training in workshop technology
• Intermediate plumbing skills with experience in installation, maintenance and repair.
• Basic fabricating and welding skills
• Intermediate troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
• Interpret drawings as they relate to equipment to be installed.
3. JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
• Experience in industrial mechanical and pneumatic systems, bearing applications and power transmissions.
• Understanding of the maintenance procedure of equipment/machines used in a heavy manufacturing environment.
• Ability to interpret mechanical specifications and engineering drawings.
• Experience in installation, maintenance and repair of plumbing systems.
• Sound operational knowledge of maintenance tools and equipment.
• High level of safety awareness.
